They learn and can associate words putting them into sentences. It has been researched and proven that parrots DO NOT mimic. "Lexi" my Mollucan Cockatoo (also known as Salmon Crested) and I have some of the most amusing conversationsĪnd Goga, that is not true. Parrots Stupid? NOT AT ALL! VERY intelligent! And Terry, your absolutely right!
I would not part with Lexi for the world! She's my best friend! They are like have a small child for 50 +/- years, needing stimulation, attention and a regular routine. They don't research their needs and the responsibilities of caring for these birds. I think thats why so many people get rid of them. But being the "largest" of the "white" Cockatoos, she is VERY loud, but its a happy, playful "loud" once or twice a day - unless she has a temper tantrum I got her when she was 2 months old and had to finish hand raising her, so she's had a regular and strict routine for 15 years - so fortunately NO bad habits. Anything "new" that she see's, its "what's that?!", I tell her what it is and she says "ohhhhhhh"! If my dogs or cats start rough housing or racing around the house, she yells at them to "knock it off!" and they stop! If she asks me for something and I don't answer or do it right away - she repeats it again but adds "RIGHT NOW!" at the end! (a demanding 4-6 year old child ) When I'm out in the yard working, Lexi's in the house yelling "I want Waynette!" I have to come in and "explain" that I'm busy and you need to be quiet and play with your toys She quiets down and plays with her toys. They have the mentality of a 4-6 year old child! I've been floored by some of the things Lexi has said to me! When I have my "work clothes" on and get her out of her "night cage" she asks me - "go to work?", but if I have regular clothes on, she doesn't ask. Id never keep a bird alone um ummm ummm never, or in the cage.Ĭlick to expand. And Goga, that is not true.
Im happy with 4 parakeets, 2 cockatiels and 2 pigeons.none o them talk back cause they all have a mate.:0 and some live up to 80 years old with proper diet. why this opsession with talking birds, it aint like they havin a conversation with us they just mimic us.
( they protected now finally)Īnd plus on top of that, everybody wants a companion that can talk. I dont know who has that much money for the bird but they are endangered so i guess some people do have the money. and they dont mate with just anybody.they need to pick a mate they like.they do cost about 16- 20.000 $ maybe im wrong but thats the reason why they so endangered. I hope im not wrong, maybe im lying but i read somewhere that hyacinth macaw reach their maturity at age of 28-30. if we did nobody would want to buy them.īig parrots become mature enough when they turn 3 and some even later. we dont see parrots flying around us every day, pooping on the buildings. Vet i take my parrots to is always happy to see them but when i take my pigeons she rolls her eyes and say ughhh pigeons. hard to breed, hard to care for, special diets, beak trimming, nail trimming.
